A pair of energy consultants are promoting an HVDC interstate transmission-plus-storage project that could complete a link between California and Chicago.
The transmission line, originally envisioned as a thruway from Kansas to Indiana, has struggled to gain approval in Missouri and Illinois.
The bill is on its way to a full vote in the state House, where it’s expected to pass, but it faces longer odds in the Senate.
The SOO Green HVDC Link has attracted questions but no organized opposition at public meetings in Iowa and Illinois.
“The idea would be to make Michigan less of an electrical peninsula,” a state utility regulator said.
