Rukiya is a native Detroiter and reporting fellow for the Energy News Network in partnership with Planet Detroit, Damon Keith Justice Center, and Detroit Equity Action Lab. Her journalism career is very new but she’s had a passion for informing and connecting her community to important matters for a while now. This passion was driven by her life experience and studies as an urban planning graduate student at Wayne State University, which she’ll be finishing in 2022. When she’s not writing, she’s organizing with a group called Eastside Solutionaries Collective which she helped to found.
